We’ve
all heard the saying, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for
a day, but teach him to fish and you feed him for a lifetime!”
As our team put our Project Proposal together, we kept our projects
focused on ways to empower the Cambodians to help themselves. By bringing
the power of TRUTH, values and education back to the family, we believe
we will see a new generation of children and families rise up with
the hope that we have in Jesus!
It’s been quite a season of change for everyone
in the slum; the new school year started, torrential rains filling
their homes almost every night, and at least 20 more families were
moved out to the “New Land.”
We
still have kid’s club in the public school which the
kids continue to love and will stand in heavy rain for hours waiting
on our team to come! They have grown so much in their knowledge of
God and have learned to call on Him in prayer! It’s so encouraging
from 3 years ago when they didn’t know who Jesus was at all!
Now they are dreaming big and have hope for an abundant future!
The family that allowed us to do clinics and cell groups in their
home has now moved, but they insist we use their house in the “New
Land” to continue the work. The “Ma” (as we all
call her) has hopes that a church will eventually be started there
as well! Amen!
It is such an exciting time as 2 members of our team have returned
from other fields, we’re starting clinics and cell groups in
the “New Land,” and we have many church and YWAM teams
joining us for Evangelism and Medical Assistance.
Most
of the families moved to the “New Land” are too far away
from their old jobs so are looking for new ways to make money. We
believe that now is an important time to encourage and train them
so they won’t return their old desperate ways of making money
(such as drugs, prostitution, stealing, etc.). So we have asked some
of the families to come up plans and budgets for new businesses so
they can see what it takes to start one there. If they are ready and
willing to start small, we offer them advice and small loans to get
started. One lady set up a noodle stall next to the factory, so when
all the ladies go on break, they come for a meal! She’s worked
so hard and now has a booming little business. All starting from about
$60! Other families are still searching or need help for strategies
and money management, so hopefully we can assist in that as well once
we’re able to open some kind of center there.
Thank you for all those praying for Mony, the boy addicted to drugs.
He finished his 3-month stay in the rehabilitation center, and returned
to his family who now lives in “New Land” as well. It
is good he is not in the slum surrounded by temptation to return to
drugs, but is in great need of emotional healing, encouragement and
new friends. So please continue to cry out for this 22-year old who
is in great need of a revelation of God’s Love!
Friends in Taiwan who read our last newsletter about all the pregnant
ladies in the slum recently sent us a huge box of baby clothes and
accessories. So we plan to have a Baby Shower for their families soon!
It’s such an honor to be able to celebrate new life and to bring
value to children where the Light needs to be shown!
